Woody Island is located 15 kilometers off the coast of Esperance, is one of the 105 islands in the Recherche Archipelago and the only island that’s open to visitors for day trips and camping. The ferry departs Taylor Street Jetty at 9am and takes 1 hour to get to Woody Island. Stopping by Thomas Island to see white-bellied sea eagles, and Gunton Island to see the eagle’s nest and just before Woody Island you will spot seals sunbaking on a rock. Woody Island is a small (around 1.5km long) island that’s listed as a nature reserve, along with being one of the only islands along the Recherche that actually has tall trees.
Getting There
The Ferry Departs at 9:00AM and Arrives back in Esperance at around 2:00PM
For day visitors the tour is from $125 per adult
Estimated travel time: 60 minutes to Woody Island, 40 min return.
Camping Or Glamping
There is 4 accommodation options on the island. All the accommodation have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Option 1– You can bring your own tent and stay in one of the camping sights for $60 per night for two adults.
Option 2– Standard tent with a queen bed or 2 single beds. pre-set up tent sites. Private deck, interior & exterior lighting and USB charging points. It cost $120 per night for 2 adults. There is also a family tent which has one queen bed and 2 single beds from $160. 4 people max.
Accomodation
Option 3– Safari Tent, 1 Queen Bed,1 x Bunk Bed & 1 x Trundle. 2 adults and 3 children. You will have your own private balcony and are equipped with interior & exterior lighting and USB charging points. Prices from$180 per night.
Option 4– Luxury Couple retreat, 2 adults only. The luxurious Couples Retreats are in a large canvas tent featuring a balcony & private deck, outdoor setting and your very own bar overlooking Shearwater Bay. Fitted with a King Bed, first class linen, bedding and towels, a comfortable 2 seater lounge, bedside lighting, hanging room for clothing, a mirror & champagne upon arrival. Retreats include interior and exterior lighting, as well as USB charge points. Prices from $260

Walking Trail’s
There is 3 walking trails on the island – The Island Top (one hour return), ‘Twiggy’s Landing’ (40 minutes return), and ‘Skinny Dip Bay’ (40 minutes return. Skinny Dip bay there is a good chance you will get it all to yourself. We recommend taking enclosed shoes, a water bottle, and bathers.
Snorkel and Kayak
Go snorkeling at Shearwater water bay which has a pontoon and waterslide and a jetty.
