A Hidden Gem In The Beautiful Kondalilla National Park

Baxter Falls

Baxter Fall’s is a hidden gem tucked away in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, featuring an amazing waterfall and suspension bridge. We headed here on a Saturday and thought it may of been busy but there was 2 other people along the whole walk. The Fall’s is part of the Great Walk, the trail to the falls is 4.3km and 235m elevation gain. You can get to the fall’s from the South or the North. The northern approach starts off of Suses Pocket Road in Mapleton, however there is no parking on this road, so you’ll need to find somewhere on the nearby side streets off Obi Obi Road. All Trails Map.

Once you have found a park follow Suses Pocket Road for about 400m. Stick to the main road and follow the walking sign’s through the gate. You then will follow the concrete path for about another 200m before seeing a walking sign to the left. Follow the track as it winds steeply into the forest via a series of switchbacks. Once you reach the suspension bridge, cross it and take the side-trail to your left upstream to the falls. You will see a sign with ‘Baxter Fall’s’ 100m and an arrow.

Once at the waterfall you can swim here if you would like and to return, simply retrace your steps back across the suspension bridge. The walk back up the valley is steep, but relatively short, with beautiful forest scenery. It also can get muddy if it has recently been raining. For the southern entrance point the carpark is in Flaxton on your right opposite Old Mill Lane. The walk is 7.6km return so shorter from the northern entrance point.
