An Epic Rail Trail Through The Beautiful Countryside

If you love the countryside and love riding along beautiful trail’s, This is the trail for you. You may of heard of the Brisbane valley rail trail which is the longest in Australia. But you may of not heard of the Kingaroy to Kilkivan Rail trail. It is an 88km one way trail which is made up of unsealed and sealed trail. It’s best known for two rail trail’s as the section between Murgon and Kilkivan is made up of mildly adventurous section, with creek crossings and gravel surfaces, weaving through the long grass. It also has many gates to open along the way. While the Murgon to Kingaroy section is family-friendly roll through the countryside, with trees planted beside the trail, and places to jump off along the way. There is a great place to have a picnic in Wondai. Kingaroy is at 425 meters above sea level, and Kilkivan is 150 meters above sea level. A tip if you are just going one way start at Kingaroy as the trail is downhill the whole way.

Free Camping

If you would like to camp along the way there is free camping at Wondai, Tingoora, Murgon, Woorolin and Kilkivan. There is free hot showers and public toilets at Murgon, Woorolin and Wondai and Public toilets at Kilkivan. If you would like to camp at Goomeri head to Goomeri caravan and Bush camping it is $15pp per night. There is also free camping at Kinbombi Falls with Public toilets.

Kilkivan to Goomeri

This section is just over 28km of trail the trail is for riders and horse riders. The trail is mainly fine gravel with some creek crossings and lots of gates. It is beautiful ride through the country side. We did do 14km one way and back from Goomeri and then stayed at Kilkivan to finish the track.

Goomeri to Murgon

This trail is Much the same trail as above, it is unsealed trail with lots of creek crossings and gates to pass through.

Murgon to Wooroolin

This trail passes Through the towns of Wondai and Tingoora. This section is just over 27km one way. Along sealed trail, Wondai is a beautiful place to stop and have lunch with a few cafes and an IGA. You can also extend the ride and head out to the Mountain tracks in Mceuen State Forest.

Mceuen State Forest mountain bike track’s

With around 20km of hand built trails thanks to the South Burnett Mountain bike club. You can access the track’s just off the Rail trail and you will see a sign, most the trails are rated green or Blue.

Wooroolin To Kilkivan

The trail Passes through the town’s of Wooroolin, Memerambi and Crawford. Finishing or beginning at Kingaroy. We camped at Woorolin and road to Kingaroy which was just over 16km each way. It is along a sealed trail the whole way and is well maintained.
