The Best Free Places To Visit In Beautiful Brisbane City

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and is a great place to spend the weekend. There is plenty to do around the city center including some beautiful park’s, amazing river trails and lot’s of nature to explore near by. In this Blog I highlight the top affordable places to visit in the and around the city.

The Clock Tower

Located at Museum of Brisbane is the Clock Tower. Where you can take the oldest working cage lift which was built in 1930. The clock tower was the tallest structure in Brisbane until the 1960s and was fitted with a red beacon at its apex to warn aircraft of this location. It is 92 metres high, with an observation platform at 76 metres. It offers beautiful 360 degree views of Brisbane City

The Roma Street Gardens

The Roma Street Parklands are located in the heart of Brisbane and is one of the best places to visit. The parklands are huge, with lakes, playgrounds, flower beds, bridges, waterfalls and walkways for exploring. The Roma St Parklands are one of the world’s largest subtropical gardens in a city centre.

Brisbane River Trail

The Brisbane Riverwalk is a beautiful scenic trail that runs along the Brisbane River. Connecting the riverside suburb of New farm and the Brisbane central area. This popular multi use trail is perfect for walking, running or cycling. It offers stunning views of the city skyline and the iconic story bridge. The main and most popular section of the riverwalk is the floating pathway built directly on the water. Its approximately 870 meters long, extending a further 4.1km to new farm. There is also a great 35km cycle loop around the Brisbane river. you can also follow the trail to Eat street Northshore which is a great place to spend the night exploring different cuisines. You can also catch the ferry cat back to Brisbane central from here.

Cruise The Brisbane River

There are multiple ways to do this too.  You can charter a boat by yourself, sit back and relax on a tourist cruise or even take a quick ride to get from A to B onboard a city cat.

Visit Brisbane Botanic Gardens

Just outside the CBD, you’ll find Mt Coot-tha – the closest mountain to the city. The Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens are spread across 52 hectares and have several different areas to explore.  There is even a Japanese Garden with cherry blossoms; a gorgeous water lily covered lagoon and the Tropical Dome.

The summit of Mt Coot-ha offers amazing panoramic views of the city. It is highly recommended to go to the observation deck, where you can see out to Moreton Bay on a clear day.  You can either drive to the top or take the walking track to the top.  

Boondall Wetland’s

Located just 15 minutes from Brisbane CBD. You will find Boondall wetlands a beautiful nature escape. Whether your after a short stroll or a longer bike ride, there’s a trail here for you. You’ll find several walking trails including the 2 km Billai Dha-gun circuit. Which is a flat loop perfect for an easy stroll in nature. For a more unique walk head along the Tabbil-ban dhagun boardwalk a 1.5km walk that takes you directly through the mangroves. There is also a 13km return journey from Brisbane entertainment center all the way to Nudgee beach. This is along a made trail and is made for cyclists

Enoggera Reservoir

The reservoir is located about 20-30 minutes from the Brisbane City. Where you can Kayak, Swim, walk or mountain bike. The most popular walking trail is the Araucaria track, which is a 5k and allow 2 hours return. It goes around a section of the reservoir, not the whole thing. But there is the option to extend the walk around the reservoir this is around 10km return. The Araucaria track is pretty flat and easy, and you are under the tree for most of it, with some nice Hoop pine trees in sections.

Eat Street North shore

Eat Street is made up of shipping containers stacked together to form an industrial-styled space. There is also a main stage where live music acts will perform most nights.  The food stalls at Eat Street offer dishes from all around the world, from crepes to dumplings and much more, at quite affordable prices, making it a great dinner spot for budget travelers. It is located in Hamilton where you can catch a city cat to or a bus from the city.
