Tully and Townsville

The drive from Tully to Townsville is 208km 2 hours and 30 minutes which you could drive it in 1 day. If you have time it is well worth taking a road trip and exploring places in between these towns. Including some beautiful places to cool and amazing waterfalls. In this Blog we show case the best places to visit along the way.

Alligator’s Nest

Despite the name there is no crocodile’s here. It was named by a local scout group and it is the local’s place to go to and cool off. It is located 10 minutes from the town of Tully.

Cardwell Spa Pool’s

The Cardwell Spa Pool is a naturally-fed seasonal creek. Due to the chemistry of the rocks and water, the colour can vary from a bright, baby blue to a more milky-blue colour depending on the time of day and available sunlight. There is a small carpark located up the top, the walk to the spa pool is a short walk down a few stairs.

Dead Horse Creek

Located on the forest drive just where the spa pool is located is this beautiful creek. This is another great place to spend the day cooling off.

Attie Creek Waterfall

A short 700m walk from the carpark is Attie Creek Fall’s. When we did visit in Januray there was soo many mozzie’s so we decided to not head in for a swim. But is also located on the forest drive. There is a swimming spot at the bottom and you can swim at the waterfall to.

5 Mile creek swimming hole

Located 10km from the town of Cardwell and located just off the Bruce Highway. There is two swimming areas one where you will find a ladder that leads into the creek. Or an area where you can walk over the rocks into the creek.

Wallaman Waterfall

 Australia’s highest permanent single drop waterfall, in Girringun National Park, located 50km from Ingham. Stony Creek plunges 268 metres in a clear single-drop. There is two lookouts up the top near the carpark. Or you can take the 4km trail to the base of the waterfall.

Big Crystal Creek

It is located in Paluma Range National Park about 80km from Townsville. You could do a day trip from Townsville or stay near by at Balgal Beach for $5pp it is a 20 minute drive from the campground. Big Crystal Creek is a short 10 minute walk to the rock slide. It is a beautiful place to cool off and relax. In the right season the Big crystal Creek campground is open.

Little Crystal Creek

This beautiful water hole is located on the way to Paluma, also located in Paluma Range National Park. It is a short walk from the carpark and it is easy to spot. You can at the top under the waterfall or up the base of the falls there is also a track down.
