The beautiful Edgecumbe trail is located in Bowen Queensland, only 1 hour from Airlie Beach. It is a beautiful coastal trail with some great snorkeling swim spots along the way and spectacular lookouts. The 2.5km one way walk is best done in the early morning. Whether you only walk to the lookout or hike further. I have detailed the walk in the blog but at the start of the walk through to Rose bay you may need to use all trails for directions.
The Trail
We decided to park at Greys Bay carpark and head straight to rose bay first. You can also park at Horseshoe beach and head straight up to the lookout for a shorter walk. The trail isnt very clear to get you to rose bay, but the trail leads you through a bushy trail. Leading you out to Rose Bay Road. You can head down to the beach before you head back up Banyan drive.
Once at the end of Banyan road you will reach the sign pictured above. From here it is a steep walk to the top. You will come past a small lookout about half way up before reaching mother Beddock Lookout. The lookout has some spectacular views over Rose Bay and Bowen.
From Mother Beddock Lookout you will head down hill before reaching Murray Bay. This is a great place to go for a swim, just check for stingers. The best time to swim here is between May and November. From here walk along the beach before you reach a set of stairs at the end of the beach. You can then walk up the stairs and head up to the WW2 Radar Lookout.
From the Radar Lookout head back down till you reach a sign that point’s you too the Rotary Lookout its about 300m walk one way to a another beautiful lookout. You will get views over Horseshoe Bay. From here head back down to the car park. Follow the road back to Greys bay and back to your car. The totally walking distance was just over 5km and it took us 2 hours with stops along the way.
