Melrose
Melrose is a small town in South Australia. The town is located in Mount remarkable National Park and is the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. Melrose is a great town for an adventure weekend with the town located at the bottom of Mount Remarkable summit, which is 960 meters from sea level. There also is Mountain Bike tracks and the Melrose to Wilmington Rail trail.

Where To Stay
In Melrose If your after a Hotel to stay at in town pick from Mt Remarkable Hotel Motel or The Brewery Guest House. If your after a place to camp or park your caravan you can stay at Melrose Caravan and Tourist Park they also have cabins available. Non Powered site from $32 for two people per night. Cabin’s from $110 per night. We stayed 3km down the road for free at Goyder’s Monument which has no facilities but was a great base to explore Melrose.


Day 1
Arrive at your accommodation and then head out to the Wilmington to Melrose Rail trail. It’s 22km one way, There is a great café called Rustikate’s Feedlot to have lunch in Wilmington. The Cafe closes at 2pm from Thursday to Monday. If they are closed you could head over to Wilmington Hotel for lunch. You can Hire a bike from Over the edge bike hire in Melrose from $85 per day. The trail is mixed terrain from fine gravel to Rough gravel and there was a few water crossings along the way.






Day 2
In the morning head on up to the summit of Mount Remarkable. The hike is 13.8km and takes about 5 hours to return from the Swinging Bridge in Melrose or a 13km return from Mt Remarkable Soldiers Memorial Monument. Follow the Northern loop up to the summit of Mt Remarkable and the southern loop back down. The trail is gently graded as it heads up to the summit. Although there are no views up the top there is views along the way. In the afternoon relax and explore the town, If your feeling adventures head out to Willowie Forest and head along some of the Mountain Bike trails.













Day 3
The last day in Mt Remarkable National Park. In the morning head out along some of the mountain Bike trails in Melrose or take a beautiful walk following the ‘Chicken run’ track. Its a beautiful nature walk with bridges crossing over the creek. You can then continue following the camel weavers track along the creek. A lot of the trails along the Melrose Mountain bike trails have quite rocky terrain and are Black or Blue trails which are for more experience riders. If your a beginner Mountain bike rider head to Willowie Forest.
