We took a day trip to Bunya Mountains National Park, when we were exploring the Brisbane Valley Rail trail. There is free camping in Yarraman or Benarkin. Which is only 1 hour drive to this beautiful National park. You can also camp at Bunya mountain at either Dandabah , Burton’s Well or Westcott Camping grounds. To book Click Here. It is not recommended you take a caravan up here as the road’s are steep and windy but it is perfect for pitching your tent for a few night’s.



A day in Bunya Mountains
One of the most popular trail’s begins at Dandabah Picnic ground’s. There is many short walk’s or you can do the Barker creek circuit. This is a 10km circuit and will take around 3 hour’s to complete the circuit. It is well worth doing if you only have 1 day in the park. You begin the circuit at the picnic ground’s and head along the scenic circuit first passing Feston Fall’s. Next you will pass Pine Gorge Lookout after about 500m.




The walk is through the beautiful rainforest and a little creek with magnificent views along the way. After pine Gorge lookout you will continue on through the forest and past huge Bunya Tree’s too Barker Creek Lookout this is a perfect place to enjoy the scenery and have lunch stop as this is your Half way point.





After you have had your lunch and soaked in the scenery continue along the trail to Little falls and Paradise Falls. This is also a great walk along the beautiful creek with amazing views. The last 3km of the walk continues through the forest and back to Dandabah Picnic ground’s. If you have extra time head to the walk through fig tree which is located on the first left after about 200m. You can also complete the circuit this way but you wont pass Pine Gorge lookout or Feston Fall’s
Bottle Tree Bluff
Begin the walk at Cherry Plain’s Picnic area which is located about 5km from Dundabah Picnic ground’s. This walk is fairly easy and not too many hill’s, Allow 1 hour to complete this 4.3km out and back Trail. Follow the trail for about 1km before reaching Cherry Plain’s lookout which has spectacular view’s of the area. Continue for another 1km before reaching Bottle Tree Bluff. You will find a platform and non obscured view’s of the area it is well worth the short walk out here for magnificent view’s over Bunya Mountain National Park and beyond.
